01 · Overview

What the project is

SpudAR is a team-initiated coursework concept created for students to learn the life cycle of a potato in a more visual and interactive way. Instead of reading the stages as static material, learners scan a printed marker and follow the plant from its initial seed tuber through four growth phases.

02 · Approach

How I approached it

I structured the experience as a short learning adventure. Each phase pairs an AR observation with a simple care action, such as watering or fertilizing, followed by facts and a quiz. Stars, progress tracking, a collection page, and unlockable potato recipes give students a clear sense of achievement without distracting from the learning objective.

03 · Implementation

From interface to system

The mobile experience was built in Unity with Vuforia image tracking. Printed markers become the entry point for the AR growth sequence, while the interface connects onboarding, four plant phases, contextual instructions, quizzes, earned stars, educational facts, collections, and recipe rewards into one guided flow.

05 · Outcome

What changed

The completed prototype combines a marker-based AR experience with a student-friendly interface and a structured learning loop covering observation, interaction, recall, and reward across the potato growth cycle.

06 · Learning

What I learned

Designing for students reinforced the importance of giving every AR interaction a clear instruction and immediate response. The technology became easier to understand when each scan was tied to one small task, visible progress, and a meaningful learning reward.
